Wounded Warrior - Disabled Sports Project Event Host, 2006

The Rochester River Challenge begins with a traditional Hawaiian Blessing of
the Canoes by Rev. Deborah Fae Swift. Sea water collected in Hawaii was blended with
water from the Genesee River to symbolize the joining together of our global Ohana
(family) of paddlers.

Rochester City Council President Lois Giess awarded a City of Rochester pin to
each Wounded Warrior after presenting a Proclamation welcoming them to Rochester and
extending "heartfelt appreciation to the Wounded Warriors for their military service, and
wishes for continued strength and resolve, as well as a bounty of peaceful days over the
course of their lives"
.

Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical
Center and Balboa Naval Medical Center wear a hand-carved Hawaiian Warriors helmet
necklace, a gift from Cape Ability Outrigger Ohana, recognizing their Warrior spirit and
symbolizing light and hope.
